Paintings, art work, or decorations don the walls and living space in many homes around the globe. In order to display particular paintings and pieces of artwork, many people choose to use battery picture lights in order to draw attention their valued possessions. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a battery picture light is a cordless lamp that is adhered to the wall or painting in order to properly light what is hanging. These lights are intended to be subtle and simple, so as to not detract attention from what is being better lit.

While they are not meant to be the focal point, the lights often come in a plethora of different options. Depending on the intended location, the fixtures can be attached to the wall, the picture itself or even hung from the ceiling. They can come in a number of different colors and textures designed to fit the style of the dcor in each individual home. Nevertheless, the main attraction to these fixtures is the fact that they operate without the necessity of a cord. This is both convenient and visually more satisfying.

The general price of these items vary in accordance with the marketer. Some are purchased for as little as twelve bucks. However, as can be predicted, the quality is not as good as the more expensive counterparts and the batteries tend to run out more frequently. Though it may be surprising, some of the light fixtures can go for up to over 500 dollars for just one. Even though it is a higher amount of more money, it can be argued that you get what you pay for. These high end distributed lights can come with a brass finish and use eco friendly bulbs. The size of the light can also be expected to affect the cost of the product.

Though it may seem like a bit of a hassle, installing the lights is a relatively simple process. The first step is to attach a bracket to either the frame of the picture or the wall. One must always make sure that the bracket is fixed into the middle of the frame. Otherwise the painting would look off center. After the bracket is properly fitted, then it easily slides into position on the wall. It is fixed so that adjusting the light in no way affects the position of the painting or poster. By also rotating the light itself, one can control the intensity of light on the artwork.

Surprisingly enough, there is a large variety of uses for this product. They are often times used in galleries as well has people’s homes. They are even used to showcase famous works of art in museums across the globe. Of course as mentioned above, prices are most likely much higher for those used in museums. Regardless, the lamps often times benefit the ambiance used to show off cherished pieces of art. It creates a subtle difference in the perception of the pieces in numerous locations.

You want to change the look of your home from the same old single coloured walls, but you’re not sure how to do that. There are the faux wall painting techniques, but those might not be something you’re capable of doing. If you’re wondering how to paint a room in a way that is simple but still different from single colours – then you might want to consider painting stripes on your walls. How do you go about it? First, you need to clean up and prepare your walls. This is an important step for any home painting technique: sand, wash, rinse and dry your walls. Once that’s done, you can give your walls a primer coat. It helps paints to adhere to the walls, so don’t take it lightly. You should give a base colour to your walls. When you’re choosing colours schemes, remember to choose paints in shades that are close to each other. This can help you cover up in case there is an error, and a little of the shade slips down to the other. Now measure out your walls. At this point, you should know that you can either have vertical or horizontal stripes on your walls.

Vertical stripes help you to give the illusion of higher walls – this is useful if you have a low ceiling. Horizontal walls help you to make the room seem longer than it is. Depending on how you want your home to seem, you can choose to measure the walls. You need to decide how long you want your stripes to be. If you don’t get even stripes, then here’s a little trick. Make the lowest strip a little longer, so that the ones above are even. No one would really notice that you would have a longer strip at the bottom, for a simple reason. Your furniture would block the way. And people tend to look at eye level rather than up or down. For vertical stripes, make the corners longer. Once you’ve measured out the levels, mark them. You need to make sure that they are straight. Once you’ve marked them up, use a painter’s tape to create your borders.

Now that your preparations are done, just use a roller or a paint brush to paint the stripes. Remember to take the painter’s tape off before the paint dries completely, or you might end up peeling the paint off as well. And keep in mind that you won’t get it absolutely right. There will be mistakes, but choosing similar shades can help you to cover things up. So go ahead and enjoy the effects of your new house painting technique!

If you have a plain wall or concrete floor, indoor or out, that is in need of a makeover, faux brickwork can be the ideal solution. Using readily available reusable stencils, you can transform a surface into an eye-catching feature. It’s a quick and easy faux painting technique that is ideal for beginners.
    The Brickwork Look
Brick finishes can complement many styles of decor. They can look trendy and modern, adding warmth and color to a room. Old brickwork has a soft and time-worn quality that is attractive indoors and out. In the garden or on the patio, plain walling or an ugly concrete slab floor can be transformed into an appealing feature of your living space.
Using brick stencils is useful if you want to extend existing brickwork without the effort, expense and mess of actual construction. (And you may not be able to find bricks that match.) Brick stenciling is also an alternative to restoring existing brickwork. Brickwork that has been damaged or previously painted is notoriously difficult to restore but can be rejuvenated with clever use of paint.
Brick Stencils – Pluses and Minuses
With brick stencils you can cover large areas quickly and efficiently. The only time where you are likely to encounter difficulties is with corners or if you have curved features, such as doors or windows; fixed size stencils can be awkward to use in some spaces. You may even have to finish off these problem areas by hand. If you are matching your design to existing brickwork, you may have to make your own stencil or in some cases, manually mark out your pattern.
    Which Design?
Brick stencils vary according to the pattern of brickwork or paving, and brick size, producing different effects. Some may be more suitable for your space than others, so plan carefully.
Different brick sizes and patterns create different textural effects. Choose a scale and degree of texture that fits your room or surface. Large and small brick patterns will be most suitable for different spaces. Some stencils are available from retailers in custom sizes.
You will also need to consider how a design will complement your room and its architectural and decorative style. Swirling or irregular patterns can create a soft effect and may go well in older or cottage-like homes and traditional-style gardens. Plain rows or geometric designs, including herringbone patterns, may suit a more modern house.
    Be Creative
Sometimes the best effects are produced by breaking the rules. You can play with colors other than browns and reds, exploiting brickwork patterns and texture, rather than slavishly simulating the real thing. Faux bricks can be made to look clean and new or you can go for the aged and distressed look, enhanced with the use of faux painting techniques. Stencils are the basic method but there is plenty of scope for experimentation and innovation.

  • Popular Painting Styles The Impasto Painting Technique

Comments Off on Popular Painting Styles The Impasto Painting Technique
    December 19, 2021 /  Painting

The impasto painting technique involves varying the thickness and texture of paint on the canvas. This results in paintings that offer an exciting emotional response that is quite different from artwork with a more uniform application of paint. If well done, the subject of a piece of art will almost appear to leap out of its frame.

Some of the old Masters like Rembrandt and Hals, employed impasto techniques to selectively add depth and emphasis to specific areas of a painting such as the folds in clothing or wrinkles in skin. Monet used a widely variable thickness of paint to increase excitement and therefore hold and direct the eye of the observer. Van Gough utilized these techniques to evoke certain emotions.

Oil and acrylic paints dominate impasto for the simple reason that straight out of the tube they are already very thick. Their viscosity naturally allows the paint to stand out from the surface. Simply put, the more paint applied the more it raises off the canvas. Other types of paints like watercolors can be used but require a thickening agent.

The painting surface needs to be somewhat rigid and non porous. If traditional canvas is used then it must be tightly stretched on its wood frame and coated with several layers of Gesso or toned thoroughly with oil paint. Since any stretching or bending of the surface can cause the paint to eventually crack, an extremely rigid Masonite board is often used.

Because creating texture is the name of the game with impasto painting techniques, it is necessary for the artist to develop many different stroke styles. Also a wide range of brushes and knives are employed for unique effects. Some painters have been known to raid the kitchen for utensils that may yield unusual textures.

  • Creative Activities For Toddlers Painting With Jello

Comments Off on Creative Activities For Toddlers Painting With Jello
    November 27, 2021 /  Painting

As a work-at-hom mom of a 16-month old daughter, I’m always in search of safe, creative arts and crafts for toddlers. I like to fill our days with creative, educational and expressive activities and painting with Jello is not only fun, but also safe and creative. The best part is watching your toddler laugh and smile while they are painting. The results is a beautiful, fruity scented masterpiece that can be displayed for all to see.

Painting with Jello is simple, inexpensive, easy and safe. Here’s what to do:

    1. For different colors, purchase a few different flavors of Jello. I like to get the Lime for green, Blue Raspberry for blue, Grape for purple, Orange for orange, Black Cherry or Strawberry for red, and Lemon for yellow. Watermelon is also great for pink. The store brand gelatin will work just as well as the name brand Jello.

    2. Grab a few of the paper Dixie cups and fill each half full with warm water. Add enough Jello to create a good consistency for painting. The thicker you make it the darker the colors will appear.

    3. Get your little one ready. Roll up the sleeves, get a bib and get ready to have some fun. Keep some moist papertowels handle just in case your little one gets a little over zealous with the paints!

    4. Lay out a piece or two of watercolor paining paper. You can usually find a pad of painting paper in the arts and crafts aisle of most stores. If we’re doing this activity on the floor, I like to lay down a towel or two. I use an old tablecloth I have reserved for arts and crafts if we are on a table.

    5. Either let your your little one paint with their hands or provide some watercolor brushes.

    6. Praise their creativity and enjoy the beautiful artwork they create.

Don’t be surprised if your toddler takes time to sample the delicious flavors they are painting with. It will smell wonderful!

The best part is it is non-toxic, safe and the results are beautiful “scratch and sniff” paintings. Since the jello doesn’t completely dissolve, it creates a scratchy glitter effect. Your toddler will love to rub their little hands across the painting and each painting will be wonderfully scented.

If you’re making paintings, cards or gifts for loved ones, use the Jello paint as the recipients will enjoy it.

Finding safe and fun arts and crafts for toddlers is easy and painting with Jello is a great rainy day activity and addition to any moms go-to fun box.

  • Oil Painting Materials And Purchasing Tips

Comments Off on Oil Painting Materials And Purchasing Tips
    November 19, 2021 /  Painting

To get started with the art of oil painting you are faced to buy the materials needed. Oil painting materials are quiet expensive and there are many varieties of materials to choose from which is little hard for the oil painting beginner. What we have here is a guide for you in purchasing your oil painting materials.

    1. Choosing the right easel for your painting? You have to consider some few things like what is it made of the height. The most important thing to remember is to have an easel that is sturdy. Many easels can be bought in art shops but if you do not have a budget then you can make one for your own. There are tips on how to make an easel that is just right for you. Having a self made easel gives you an ease of not adjusting anything when using because you can make it to put the canvas where you wanted. Portable easels are mostly used if you wanted to paint outdoors or out of your working place.

    2. Next are white bristle brushes. Get a variety of brushes and it is suggested to get animal hair brushes and not the synthetics brush. Animal hairbrush handles the pigment better and is more natural than synthetic hairbrush. Q-tips cotton are also better in oil painting because they can create very subtle stroke with its soften edges. Using white bristle brushes needs more practice though. It is recommended to use a shaving brush, cut it with a brush cutter.

    3. Pads of wax coated paper or disposable palettes is also needed when oil painting. When you use only one, tear it off and its fine but it is suggested that you get to disposable palettes. One is for putting your colors down, while the other one is used for mixing colors only.

    4. Different oils can be mixed with your pigments. Start with Cold Pressed Linseed oil but you can experiment later on. The latter oil mentioned earlier is extracted from trees and is general purpose oil. A palette knife is to be used when mixing the oil and resins into the pigments. Alkyd resin is needed to fasten the drying time of the pigments. If you are not familiar with alkyd buy a general purpose one until you know which one you want to use.

    5. Other essential materials are paint thinner or mineral spirits. In using these substances make sure to get one that is not too smelly or strong because these are not that good to ones. Brush washer is also needed to put the paint thinner in and wash your brushes. Rags are preferred for messes and cleanups.

    6. Canvas boards are good for oil painting practice. Prepare your canvas and buy it unprimed. There are pre-stretched canvases available in department stores or art shops though this comes with a price.

Natural Brighton house painting for home interiors

Ever wonder about the dangers we run into every single day? Paint, which most people can’t go ten minutes without seeing, is an extremely toxic substance, which has been linked to lung cancer and respiratory problems especially among professional painters. However, the danger is not limited to the professionals since even years after putting down new coat harmful fumes can still be released into the air. In Brighton, which is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, painters have been searching for a way to move away from these harmful substances. Thankfully, a new type of paint is sweeping the market; eco-paints, made with natural ingredients such as clay and plant extracts, are now competing with the traditional toxin-laden concoctions. Painters can now do Brighton house painting without worry for the people who will come into contact the paint.

Importance of natural paints for Brighton house painting

Several specialty painters in Brighton have jumped on the bandwagon and are exclusively using these earthborn paints for Brighton house painting to reduce the impact their brushes have on the people around them. Because traditional paints are so harmful, it is especially important to use eco-paints for Brighton house painting if there are children in the home. Painters in Brighton are continuing the city’s longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and healthy living by using these healthy paints. Painters in Brighton have also commented that natural paints are, in fact, more vivid and better looking than traditional paints. These paints use natural substances for Brighton house painting both as adhesives and to create the color in the paint; because of this many painters note that these paints are easier on the eye and create harmony in a room. Is natural paints are effective for Brighton house painting?

Many citizens and some painters in Brighton worry that these natural paints are not as effective as the paints loaded with chemicals which were earlier used for Brighton house painting. However, eco-paints already grace the walls of some of our most beautiful and important buildings. London’s Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital has Biofa Eco-Paint on its walls, and painter’s right here in Brighton used this type of eco-paint on The Jubilee Library. Even Brighton’s clock-tower was covered in an environmentally friendly mineral coating produced by Biofa.

Though eco-paints used to be difficult to find, now there are many reputable sellers and manufacturers all over the country. The painters in Brighton have especially good access, with many of the best companies located nearby. Stores like The Natural Alternative Decorating Centre and Villa Natura are both easily reached by painters for Brighton house painting. Brighton’s painters now even have access to Newlife Paints, a company which manufactures recycled earth-friendly paints using leftover and waste paint.

Eco-paints have become a staple of Brighton house painting and are likely to become even more popular in the future.
